“José María and Rafael create talc tapestries”

Nature, “upcycling”, and transferring tradition to a totally different version of itself, have been the concepts that José María and Rafael have considered to create this piece.

The named “Flores de Talco” which are made out of metal sheets, beads, and various pearls, are a Spanish conventual tradition that the Santa Conserva workshop, although mainly dedicated to textile restoration, perpetuates. In a thrilling re-encounter with the creative process, José María and Rafael have used flower-shaped stencils to cut metal sheets that they have burnished and modeled. The work is a nod to conventual flowers, a fun and modern gaze at them, with a smile that reminds us that tradition is the present and that beauty is eternal.
